Abortion… its right or her choice?
Abortion
You have probably heard about the current debate in German courts, as to whether or not early-stage abortions (within the first 12 weeks) should, as the government-appointed commission recommends, be decriminalised.
Abortion is ‘the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus.’1
I think the topic of abortion has become so polarised and political that maybe we no longer see what it truly is. For years we have debated it, waged culture wars and changed laws over it, so much so that perhaps we have been blinded to the simplicity of the issue. By looking at the definition and applying a little common sense we can deduce that what it means is the unjust taking of a human life, plain and simple; because a human life, despite what many would have us think, is just what a foetus is.
According to the S.L.E.D. argument,
there are four key differences between someone who is inside the womb and someone who is outside the womb: size, level of development, environment and degree of dependency. None of these make any difference to someone’s humanity!
And there are four criteria that science requires to establish biological life: metabolism, growth, reaction to stimuli and reproduction. And an embryo has all of them.
The fact of the matter is, if the embryo of Albert Einstein had been destroyed, Albert Einstein would never have lived. Calling something by a different name doesn’t change its meaning; abortion is murder.
I would not be alone in drawing parallels between the extermination of the Jews in Nazi Germany and the murdering of unborn children. Don’t get me wrong, the holocaust was a horrific, heinous crime, but while the holocaust killed approximately 11 million people, abortion kills over 44 million per year.2

The actual word ‘holocaust’, from the Greek words “holos” (whole) and “kaustos” (burned), was historically used to describe a sacrificial offering burned on an altar. Which is distinctly reminiscent of the horrendous child sacrifice to the deity Molech described in the Old Testament. Abortion is but a modern form of child sacrifice to the god of self, and it must stop.
There are many former abortionists and abortion survivors who are now relentlessly striving to expose the tragedies of this issue. Abby Johnson is one of these. She worked for Planned Parenthood for 8 years, even becoming director of a clinic, but had a drastic change of heart after a number of circumstances which included assisting with an ultrasound guided abortion where she witnessed the true horrors of the process. Abby left the clinic and is now an outspoken advocate for the pro-life movement.
She (and many others) describe the graphic way in which the abortions are performed including how infant corpses are literally pieced back together to ensure nothing remains in the mother’s womb. While horrific, it’s vital that we know what actually happens behind the doors of an abortion clinic.
‘How did we get to this place?’ you might ask. ‘How could lawmakers in our government pass such murderous laws that so obviously contravene the most basic of human rights and ignore biblical morality?’
You would think the one thing we could all agree on is that the taking of a defenceless and innocent human life, be it male or female, black or white, born or unborn, is wrong.
Perhaps we have lost sight of the true value and beauty of life itself, and forgotten the meaning of words such as ‘sacred’ and ‘sanctified’. Have we as a culture so devalued human life to the point where we are easily able to abuse and mistreat it? I believe the answer to this question is not only at the core of the abortion issue, but is also the root of many other societal issues including suicide, human-trafficking and racism.
If we truly understood that every single human life, created in the image of God, is without exception, without a doubt, not just valuable but priceless, then we would not be in the culturally degenerate society we find ourselves today.
But there is hope. Forgiveness for this abominable sin is available through the blood of Jesus through repentance. Some who have turned from this evil path have become the greatest advocates for life, defending the rights of the unborn. Let’s join them and become a voice for the voiceless, a defence for the defenceless. Together, with God’s help, we can and must right this wrong and assure every child has the chance to live.

Typically second trimester abortions are performed utilising a ‘sopher clamp’, a tongs like instrument with sharp teeth. The abortionist uses the clamp to blindly grasp an arm, a leg, or any other body part of the living baby, dismembering it and gradually piecing the baby’s lifeless body back together again on the operating table to assure all parts have been successfully removed.
