There is a correlation between the degree to which we are tuned in to the voice of the Lord and the quality of life we experience. I know this from my own experience and, more importantly, from the holy scriptures. Jesus, referring to himself as the Good Shepherd, said that those who are His own hear His voice. And King David declared:
“The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.”
Psalm 23:1-3 (NLT)
If all our needs are abundantly met and we are a blessing to those around us, it’s because we are hearing His voice with some clarity. The converse is also true. This is to be expected because “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”
The last thing our spiritual enemy wants is for us to be hearing the Lord’s voice. When we do, faith comes, life is imparted and we receive direction and strength. in short: we become a threat to the kingdom of darkness. Our enemy therefore has a dirty tactic to disrupt these divine communications; it’s called radio jamming.
Radio jamming occurs when disruptive radio signals are transmitted that affect communications by decreasing the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).
Intentional radio jamming has been frequently used in warfare to disrupt enemy communication and also to sustain propaganda (these days referred to as ‘controlling the narrative’). During WW2 the Nazis attempted to jam radio broadcasts from British radio stations such as the BBC for this very reason.
Jamming of radio, television and internet-based communications has been used extensively by communist regimes to prevent information leaking into their countries from abroad. Many Western governments and media outlets (ironically including the BBC) are also guilty of using far more sophisticated and covert methods of jamming as part of globally-coordinated censorship programs – go to to understand more.Enough about the theory, let’s make this personal. Do you sometimes feel swamped by noise? Or that your mind has got out of control? It’s because of this spiritual warfare we are in. Too much distracted feeding on the news or listening to the unsanctified voices of the world and you’ll find your heart so clogged that the heavens have apparently turned to brass. However, it is not over the Lord’s face that the veil lies, but over our own hardened hearts.
We have to wise-up. Jesus instructed us to be careful what we are hearing. And the apostle Paul encouraged us to make a quiet life our aim. Can you really afford to consume so much natural information?
Once we have awakened to this noisy device of the enemy we will no longer wonder at the fog of deception that pervades western society today, as we consider the scale of the enemy’s influence over education, government, media, entertainment and even the established church.
The reality is: the voice of truth has been largely drowned out in the public sphere. It happened because a weak Church lacked the resolve to meaningfully engage in culture and society – she was silent when she was supposed to speak up and act.
“Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless”
– Dietrich Bonhoeffer
When the already over-reaching British government further extended its overreach, passing laws that redefined morality, why did most of the church roll over and play dead?
This has happened on our watch. We must repent and be burning with zeal. We must pray, recover our peace, find our courage and listen for instructions from headquarters. Then we must act, doing our utmost to defend the truth, working to see the spiritual and moral decline of our nations reversed.
Whilst the following promise was specifically given to Israel, a nation in covenant with God, I believe we can take its principles to heart and do the same:
“Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.”
2 Chronicles 7:14 (NLT)
